Stylecraft Carousel Blanket CAL Pack - Special DK

Created by well-established designer Sue Pinner, the Carousel Blanket is a gorgeous crochet pattern which has been chosen by Stylecraft for their Autumn 2016 CAL (Crochet Along). Inspired by the sights and sounds of traditional fairgrounds and circuses, Sue has incorporated all the fun of the fair into her beautiful design, and it’s easy to imagine the merry-go-round, helterskelter and coconut shies just waiting to be enjoyed.

The CAL instructions for the CAL will be available from the Stylecraft website. The instructions will be available in UK and US crochet terms, and there will be video instructions to accompany each part.

The Carousel CAL Facebook page is available now for you to join. If you haven’t taken part in a CAL before, it is a friendly, supportive, and very enjoyable way of becoming part of a small crochet community, sharing your progress and getting hints and tips from an online group of fellow crocheters, all creating the same item. If you prefer, you can create your Carousel Blanket on your own as an ongoing project. It is not necessary to start on the 13th September when the CAL begins, and many people start partway through, or at a later date.

The Carousel Blanket Crochet Along is an ideal opportunity for crocheters who have mastered the basic stitches and would like to improve their skills. It includes a selection of geometric shapes including pentagons, hexagons, octagons and trapezoids. The shapes are crocheted individually from the centre outwards, and then joined together.

For this version of the CAL, Sue has chosen to use the brightest and boldest shades of Stylecraft Special DK to reflect the excitement and adventure of a carousel on a sunny summer day, and the vibrant result would be perfect for a child's bedroom, a conservatory or summerhouse, or as a statement piece in a bold, modern interior.

This colour pack contains 17 x 100g balls of Stylecraft Special DK in the following shades: 2 x Lipstick 1 x Parma Violet, Cream, Clematis, Magenta, Fuchsia Purple, Spice, Citron, Mustard, Pistachio, Grass Green, Aspen, Duck Egg, Turquoise, Aster and Lavender.

When complete, your blanket will measure approximately 152cm (60”) in diameter, and you will need a 4mm crochet hook, locking stitch markers, a tapestry needle, scissors and a tape measure.

The Carousel Blanket CAL colour pack has been created in two versions, and is also available as Stylecraft Carousel Blanket CAL Pack - Batik DK, where the bright bold shades of Stylecraft Special DK have been replaced with the softer multi-tonal shades of Stylecraft Batik. This creates a delightful vintage look, as though the fairground has been weathered by decades of sun and wind, and the colours faded with time.
