Cross Stitch Cable
This stitch is worked over a multiple of 8 stitches. 4 rows form the pattern.
1st row (RS): * P2, K4, P2, rep from * to end.
2nd row: * K2, P4, winding yrn twice from each st, K2, rep from * to end.
3rd row: * P2, ybk, sl 4 sts P-wise dropping extra loops, sl 1st 2 sts on to RH needle, then next 2 sts, K these 4 sts in their crossed position, P2, rep from * to end.
4th row: * K2, P4, K2, rep from * to end.
YBK (Yarn Back): Take yarn under needle from purl to knit position, without making a st.
Slip 4 stitches purlwise, dropping extra loops, 3rd row (RS): Purl 2 stitches, take the yarn to the back of work, insert point of the right-handle needle purl-wise into the next stitch on the left-hand needle and slip it on to the right-hand needle without working, allowing extra loop to fall. Repeat 3 more times.
Slip first 2 stitches, then next 2 stitches, 3rd row (RS): Now insert point of the left-hand needle purl-wise into the 1st 2 of these 4 stitches, lift them over the last 2 but do not drop them, then insert the point of the left-hand needle purl-wise into the last 2 stitches and slip them on to left-hand needle.
Knit these 4 stitches in their crossed position, 3rd row (RS): Insert the right-hand needle point into the stitch which is now the 1st stitch on the left-handle needle and knit. Knit 2nd, 3rd, then 4th stitch, purl the next 2 stitches, rep from * to end of row.
